Third Thursday Set to Groove
The sounds of legendary jazz musician Charles Mingus is set to raise the beat of Wellington’s waterfront on 19 March, when the acclaimed Wellington Mingus Ensemble performs at the Museum of Wellington City and Sea’s popular Third Thursday series.
“The Wellington Mingus Ensemble brings the excitement and joy of big jazz bands to the City” says Rachel Ingram, Head of Learning and Programmes.
“Charles Mingus was an incredibly prolific musician and the Wellington Mingus Ensemble showcases the variety, texture and soul of Mingus’ work”.
The Ensemble’s 16 musicians have been playing extensively in Wellington since their formation in 2012, and completed a tour of the North Island in late 2014.
The Ensemble’s Third Thursday performance will take place at the Museum of Wellington City and Sea’s Test Studio, ground floor, and will run from 7pm to 8:30pm. Entry is by koha.
Staged monthly, the Third Thursday series brings late night openings to the Museum, showcasing the performers, people and stories which make our region unique.
