NZ's Featured in Gallipoli Exhibition
Second Building Gallipoli video introduces New Zealanders featured in upcoming exhibition
The second Building Gallipoli video released this evening introduces the ordinary New Zealanders in extraordinary circumstances at Gallipoli who are being brought to life in Te Papa’s new exhibition.
Gallipoli: The scale of our war opens to the public on April 18. It will be free entry and open for the duration of the centenary of World War One.
Episode 2 of Building Gallipoli reveals the process used to select the eight New Zealanders featured in the exhibition.
“We made our selection for the eight people whose stories we will tell through firstly their diaries. They wrote the most incredible diaries that speak to us from the past. Then it was critical to us that we found a provincial representation throughout New Zealand in our characters. We also represented the fact that this was the first time that a Maori contingent had fought for New Zealand in the war,” exhibition Creative Director Sir Richard Taylor says.
“Like all good stories, you need the personal to understand the wider significance and this exhibition does that,” exhibition Historical Director Dr Christopher Pugsley says.
