A Strange Day’s Night Returns to Auckland

A Strange Day’s Night Returns to Auckland for Two Nights Celebrating the Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones rocked the Auckland Town Hall in 1965. Now, 50 years later, the Great Hall will again be filled with some of the world’s finest rock songs, performed by our very own. To celebrate this iconic repertoire, Play It Strange with Auckland Live, The Sound and Concert Trust are excited to announce a very special celebration.

Two nights of The Rolling Stones songs will be performed at ‘A Strange Day’s Night’ in the Auckland Town Hall, on Wednesday 3rd June and Thursday 4th June.

Some of New Zealand’s big name rockers will be performing, including Jordan Luck (The Exponents), Dictaphone Blues, Mike Chunn (Split Enz), Peter Warren (DD Smash), Eddie Rayner (Split Enz, Crowded House), Peter Urlich (Th’Dudes) and Leza Corban (Strawpeople).. In keeping with the philosophy of Play It Strange, those artists will share the stage with school student performers who have been rehearsing hard: including The Jam Busters, Courtney Hate, Kaipara’s Strangeness with Clap Clap Riot, The Roosters, Rezonation and more emerging talent. With the likes of the REDtrio from Queenstown, The DeSotos, Jubilation Choir, The Backbeats and Jed Town gracing the stage with more than 200 musicians in this unique fundraiser for the Play It Strange Trust, “it is certain to be a majestic event” says CEO Mike Chunn.

Songs include all of the biggest hits by the Stones, including Rocks Off, RubyTuesday, Get Off My Cloud, Start Me Up, Shine A Light, Paint It Black, Brown Sugar, Gimme Shelter, Sympathy For The Devil, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Satisfaction, and so much more.

Last year the inaugural Strange Day’s Night celebrated 50 years since The Beatles played the Auckland Town Hall – renowned NZ musicians and songwriters took to the stage with young school performers and artists and sang from The Beatles repertoire – applauded by an appreciative audience. Check out some photos from last year here.

In 2015 it’s The Rolling Stones turn and the Great Hall will again be filled with some of the world’s finest songs performed by our very own.

Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.
