ALPHA DOMUS CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

Welcome, it's great to be back in touch with everyone again. Here at Alpha Domus it's been a busy few months with awards, a special wine release, co-hosting the Bridge Pa Wine Festival and the appointment of our new winemaker Barry Riwai (see story below). We have some exciting wine releases from 2013 which many wine commentators are regarding as one of Hawke's Bay's greatest vintages. As part of this we have a very special offer on the 2012 The Navigator only $20 per bottle (see below).

In 2015, Alpha Domus celebrates 25 years and although much has changed we're still 100% family owned, producing estate grown single vineyard wines with an uncompromising emphasis on quality.

THE EAGERLY AWAITED 2014 BARNSTORMER SYRAH

Following on from the sellout multi award winning 2013 we're delighted to announce that our 2014 vintage is now available. This fruit driven Syrah is extremely aromatic and elegant, has soft tannins and great mid palate weight.

EXCITING 2013 RELEASES TO WATCH OUT FOR!

The industry is awash with talk about the 2013 vintage. We're super excited to be soon releasing two eagerly awaited stunning wines from this vintage, The Navigator and the first release of The Aviator since 2010. These classic Alpha Domus red blends are testament to the continued dedication of the family and all those involved in the business.

The Aviator and The Navigator, first made in 1996 and 1997 respectively, are wines that are exported and sold in fine restuarants and speciality wine shops throughout the world. Older vintages that we've opened have stood the test of time and are drinking superbly, selected Library releases are available at the Cellar Door. If you have interest in these wines and are not able to visit please call to enquire.

With the imminent release of the 2013 The Navigator we have a special offer on the 2012. This wine has been winning many friends in the cellar door and until 14th April, as a valued customer, you can purchase the wine at a rare price of just $20 /bottle for 6 bottles click here to order.

THE CHANGING OF THE GUARD, INTRODUCING BARRY RIWAI

We're thrilled to introduce Barry Riwai as our new winemaker taking over from Kate Galloway who has produced single vineyard wines at Alpha Domus for over a decade. Kate is taking a welcome break from winemaking.

Barry is well known as both an excellent winemaker and wine judge. He brings strong winemaking experience particularly with Chardonnay, having been with Clearview Winery in Te Awanga, Hawke's Bay for the last 10 years.

Originally from Hamilton, Barry moved to Hawke's Bay in 1997 to study viticulture at EIT. "It's great being back to this side of Hawke's Bay in the Bridge Pa Triangle, it's where the action is with all of the major wine brands in the area. Alpha Domus' repuation for Syrah and Red Blends was also a major draw card for me" says Barry, who has hit the ground running as we launch into the 2015 vintage.

OUR HARVEST UPDATE

Vintage 2015 is off to a great start, we picked our Chardonnay grapes first including an early batch for our 2015 Cumulus Methode Traditionelle, the Wingwalker Viognier is also tucked away in the winery. The quality of grapes is fantastic and the season is looking promising. The next fruit to be harvested will be Merlot for The Heroines Rosé. All of our reds will be picked by the end of April with the last grape pick of Semillon in May for our Late Harvest and Noble Selection.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST

For those of you that have met our meeter and greeter, Alfie the miniature Schnauzer in the cellar door, he will be taking a little vacation during the harvest. Alfie has developed a taste for the crushed red grapes which causes havoc with his health, but he will return.

Kind Regards,
Paul and the Alpha Domus crew
