Third Building Gallipoli video looks at role of Māori contingent in exhibition
The third Building Gallipoli video released this evening gives a sneak peek at how the Māori contingent are being recognised in theGallipoli: The scale of our war exhibition opening on April 18.
“For many New Zealanders their first face-to-face meeting with Māori as fellow New Zealanders occurred not here in New Zealand but on the peninsula,” exhibition Historical Director Dr Christopher Pugsley says.
“This is an important exhibition for Te Papa. As a bicultural museum sharing the story of Te Hokowhitu a Tu, the Māori soldiers at Gallipoli, it’s not only a Māori story but a truly national story,” Te Papa’s Kaihautū Arapata Hakiwai says.
