Lightfoot returns to Pukekohe
Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot heads to the third round of the UDC V8 Ute Series at Pukekohe this weekend looking to continue his march up the series ladder.
Currently sitting in equal fifth place, a strong weekend could see him comfortably move into the top three before the series heads to the winter break.
Sitting between Lightfoot and a podium place however is the high-speed rollercoaster that is Pukekohe, widely regarded as the most exhilarating race track in the country but also the one that can bite the hardest.
Lightfoot and the South Auckland track have a love-hate affair which has in the past varied from the biggest crash of Buzz’s career through to his maiden career round win, ironically all at the same meeting.
This season has seen a step up in pace with Lightfoot entrusting the engineering of the SEW Eurodrive/Lightfoot Motorsport Falcon to DCH Motorsport and although a series of incidents meant the desired result was not achieved at the opening round, a podium finish last time out at Ruapuna showed what speed the Lightfoot/DCH Motorsport combination is capable of producing.
“I’m really looking for a good run at Pukekohe, we’ve certainly had an interesting track record and I’ll certainly be aiming to keep out of trouble,” says Lightfoot. “But with only 12 points between us and third place, there is plenty to play for before the mid-season break.”
After two practise sessions on Friday, the UDC V8 Utes hit the track for qualifying on Saturday morning setting the grids for the afternoon’s race. A reverse grid race on Sunday morning will combine with Saturday’s race to set the grids for the final race of the weekend on Sunday morning.
