Wear pink support for Pinikilicious

Wear pink support for Pinikilicious

10 April 2015

Show your support, wear it with pink for the Pinikilicious awareness campaign tomorrow, Saturday 11 April 2015 at the PIC Hall, 207 Champion Street, Cannons Creek, Porirua from 9:00am – 3:00pm.

The Pinikilicious event honours and celebrates Pasifika women and encourages them to recognise the importance of their health and wellbeing.

Now in its 3rd year, Pinikilicious the campaign is not only to celebrate being a woman but to hopefully improve public awareness of health symptoms for women and encourage earlier diagnosis of any diseases, to achieve better survival outcomes.

Caroline Mareko, event coordinator says “Pinikilicious is all about a specific focus on Pasifika women’s health.”

“There are hundreds of other events around the country and this is our share by associating the colour pink with breast cancer awareness and women. The Pinikilicious concept aims to challenge churches and communities to embrace the feminine shade, honouring Pasifika women of all ages and pink up for one day in recognition of the role of women.”

“Every year in New Zealand, many of our Pacific women are diagnosed with breast cancer; this is why we try and partner up with churches to support this cause, provide information awareness that hopefully will save and improve lives of our Pasifika women in Porirua, giving others an opportunity for early diagnoses and more effective treatments.”

“We are also extending Pinikilicious this year to include registration for cervical screening and we advocate strongly for the elimination of family violence.”

“I hope you will join me and our Organising Committee by wearing pink tomorrow Saturday 11 April and showing your support for Pinikilicious.”

“Our sincere appreciation goes to Porirua Social Sector Trial and Compass Health as our main sponsors who are committed to fulfilling our social, religious and health obligations”, said Caroline.

ENDS.
