Te Papa: Fifth Building Gallipoli Video
Fifth Building Gallipoli video reveals how large scale figures were made
The fifth Building Gallipoli video released this evening reveals how the eight large scale figures in Te Papa’s new exhibition Gallipoli: The scale of our war were made.
The exhibition, created by Te Papa working closely with Weta Workshop, opened to the public on Saturday and brings to life the story of eight ordinary New Zealanders who found themselves in extraordinary circumstances at Gallipoli – each at 2.4 times human scale.
Weta Workshop spent more than 24,000 labour hours building and installing the eight figures in the exhibition.
“Showing those soldiers at scale and sharing the intent of these people give them presence and power and cause a moment of reflection. As an audience member you can view and become engrossed in, and engaged with, at maybe a level you never could with a one-to-one scale mannequin,” exhibition Creative Director Sir Richard Taylor says.
“For the first time really we are honouring that generation on a scale that they deserve,” exhibition Historical Director Dr Christopher Pugsley says.
