The Mystery of Life 23/4/15
The Mystery of Life
23rd
April, 2015
5.30pm at 203H, La Gonda
Arcade, K road
203H presents ‘Mystery of Life’, an experiential installation showcasing Hannah-Lee Jade’s latest collection ‘Mystery of Structure’, alongside a Soundscape produced by Spatial Designer, Zammia Weatherall.
Delving into the mystery of planet earth’s ancient cultural history, this collection focuses on an array of spiritual sites and architectural wonders of the world. Nazca lines, Machu Picchu, Egyptian Pyramids, Sphinx, Stone Henge, and Easter Island Heads, have been transformed into design motifs, which feature as hand painted and block printed textiles.
‘The Mystery of Life’s’ mission is to reinvigorate the manifestation of the ethereal into the terrestrial, through being a living exemplar. This has been a foundational philosophy throughout Hannah-Lee’s career.
Hard, near impossible to confine to a classification, Hannah-Lee’s organic sincere dedication to her practice is only to be understood through experiencing her craft first hand.
Dreamscapes are materialized through her unconventional patterns and designs. Yet at a distance, it is clear that she has a core fascination with triangles, their interaction within the human figure, and their translation into construction and patternmaking, a theme that has followed through each collection thus far.
The Soundscape titled ‘Mystery of Sound: In Response to Mystery of Structure’, explores the study of ancient sound and how it can be translated within the acoustics of space, in particular the architecture of La Gonda Arcade. Zammia’s technique of recording, weaves sounds composed by Hannah-Lee to become a part of the resonant frequencies of the site. Repetition is a reoccurring tool found both in Zammia and Hannah-Lee’s processes of making.
This Thursday’s event will be the last held at 203H, and the final chance to experience the latest Hannah-Lee Jade collection, before she takes on the world in Berlin.
