Kiwis go online to get aid to Nepal

New Zealanders are turning to Givealittle.co.nz to get much-needed aid through to the victims of the recent earthquake in Nepal.

More than $170,000 has been contributed so far, and the generosity is showing no sign of slowing down.

Official aid organisations and concerned individuals alike have taken to the site to create fundraising pages.

General Manager of the Spark Foundation, Lynne Le Gros says she’s thrilled to see that Givealittle is helping to enable such a huge outpouring of support.

“Givealittle is a tool all New Zealanders can use, with the assurance that 100% of the amount they donate will get through to those behind the cause page, who are helping the thousands of people who have been affected by this devastating earthquake,” she says.

New Zealanders who have an affinity with Nepal or surrounding areas can create pages to benefit existing aid efforts, without the responsibility of handling funds.

“Donating to any of the fundraising appeals on Givealittle is honourable in itself, but we’d definitely encourage those who want to go the extra mile to create a fundraiser page and mobilise their networks in aid of an organisation,” Ms Le Gros says.

For example, Stuff.co.nz has rallied its audience and has created a page that benefits the New Zealand Red Cross using a Givealittle fundraiser page. The page has raised more than $8000 from 154 donors to date.

The aid contributed through Givealittle.co.nz covers all of the bases - from rebuilding schools with First Steps Himalaya, to looking after children with Active Hearts Himalaya.
