Four New Zealand Music Month events at Upper Hutt Central Library
Upper Hutt City Library is once again celebrating NZ Music Month with a variety of free music events.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 11 MAY 2015—To celebrate this year’s New Zealand Music Month, Upper Hutt City Council has scheduled four events at Upper Hutt Central Library.
The first event was held in the Library’s Rotary Lounge on Saturday 9 May with a performance by the Upper Hutt Country Music Club. “A happy crowd thoroughly enjoyed a couple of hours of traditional and crossover style country music,” says Upper Hutt City Council’s Community Programmes Co-ordinator, Jane Cherry.
On Tuesday May 19 at 1.30 pm, an interactive body percussion workshop will be held by local percussionist, Angie Gooch. Participants will learn some simple routines to create a percussion piece. “It is really good for your brain a bit like juggling and loads of fun,” says Ms Cherry.
On Thursday May 21 at 6.00 pm, Upper Hutt Library’s UH Ukes group are once again performing alongside the Trentham Defence Force Ukulele Band for an hour of music and fun.
On Friday May 29 at 6.00 pm, the very popular Upper Hutt College students will return to perform their own compositions and works by New Zealand composers, accompanied by the piano and viola.
“New Zealand Music Month is a great way to showcase local talent, and encourage ordinary kiwi’s to pursue their musical passions,” says Ms Cherry.
