Desexy Revolution hits the magic 100

Desexy Revolution hits the magic 100 in time for 1st Birthday!

Desexy Revolution celebrates its 1st birthday on June 4th. The initiative, which is part of the Humane Rescue, Rehabilitation & Rehoming Trust (HURRAH), has funded more than 100 spay and neuter surgeries for dogs in its first year.

HURRAH trustee and Desexy Revolution founder, Chrissy Clements says, “I am delighted that we’ve reached this milestone so quickly! The biggest reason for establishing Desexy was to reduce the intake to HURRAH. Our aim isn’t just to carry out the operations, but to raise awareness of the huge benefits these surgeries offer - to both the dog and their human companion.”

One pair of unaltered (ie: not desexed) dogs and their litters can produce up to:

- 16 in one year
- 128 in two years
- 512 in three years
- 2,048 in four years
- 12,888 in five years
- 67,000 in six years

Based on these figures therefore, Desexy Revolution’s work may have already saved the lives of thousands of unwanted dogs.

Part of the charity's education process has been to photographically document a complete surgery, and create a “storyboard” detailing medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, a step-by-step guide to the procedure, timings and, of course, the recovery. “We want to remove the taboo,” comments Chrissy. “Once people see how straightforward and quick the procedures are, we hope they’ll be even more open to getting their dog desexed.”

Desexy Revolution is supported by a loyal team of volunteers, professional individuals and organisations. The charity wishes to particularly acknowledge:

Having achieved 100 surgeries in year one, Desexy Revolution’s goal for year two is to perform 200 surgeries! In order for this to be achieved, the charity needs to further strengthen its relationship with Auckland Council and veterinary clinics around Auckland, ramp up its educational programme and secure greater funding.
