Conductor returns to perform with CSO

The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra welcomes back an old friend for its next Masterworks concert, España.

Conductor Emeritus Tom Woods returns to conduct the fourth concert in the Lamb & Hayward Masterwork series, features the work of prominent Iberian composers Isaac Albeniz and Manuel De Falla, with pieces such as Suite Española and Nights in the Gardens of Spain.

Tom has had a busy year so far. Recently, he accepted the position of Stellvertretender Generalmusikdirektor at Oper Regensburg.

Australian pianist Grace Kim will also be joining the orchestra as the soloist for De Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain. This is the first time she will be performing with the CSO.

“I’m very excited to perform with CSO,” said Grace. “I know many Australian colleagues who have been associated with the orchestra - I have many hellos to pass on!

“Nights in the Garden of Spain is a magical work. The piece suits my temperament very well - romantic, passionate, fiery at times. I cannot wait to share this beautiful piece with the wonderful CSO and maestro Tom Woods.”

The repertoire also includes Iberia by Albeniz.

Date: Saturday, 15th August 2015
