Auckland Grammar School to release cookbook

Auckland Grammar School to release cookbook with Internationally acclaimed Celebrity Chef

Anthony Hoy Fong works with the biggest names in the culinary business as a chef, producer and culinary expert. He travels and works extensively through the United States, most notably cooking for President Barack Obama in the White House and is a regular consulting chef to the West Wing.

From managing some of the largest culinary projects in the State's, Grammar old boy Anthony has most recently been overseeing the compilation of an intimate collection of recipes in ‘A Taste of Grammar’, to be released by Auckland Grammar School.

The book will be launched at the Main Hall of Auckland Grammar School on Sunday 16th of August 2015. This is the school’s first venture into the world of culinary appreciation and celebrates the diversity of the Grammar community with over 150 recipes, including a favourite from Hoy Fong himself. The collection allows us a glimpse into the lives of many well-known Grammar alumni, including Sir Graham Henry, Max Gimblett, Dion Nash and Hamish Carter. All funds raised from the cookbook will support the Foundation Trust’s Academic Endowment Fund, which aims to attract and reward the best teaching staff.

“Creating a cookbook that accurately represented Grammar with it’s long history, multi-generational families, diverse ethnicities and global network of old boys was daunting at first. But when we opened the gates for recipe submissions to the community there was such an overwhelmingly positive response, any fears were immediately alleviated. From former headmaster Sir John Graham’s 19 th century family dressing recipe that has been passed down through five generations, to cricketer Dion Nash’s brilliantly simple but heart warming broth, the story and embodiment of what Grammar represents naturally told itself through the incredible recipes and food.” - Anthony Hoy-Fong The book is formatted in line with the school year, with each term representing one of the four seasons. It aims to reflect an appreciation for the young men and families from over 50 different ethnicities who make up the fabric of Grammar today.

As the School prepares to celebrate 150 years of a Grammar education, there is a growing awareness of the need for healthy food options to aid nourishment and performance, and to help grow our boys into young men here at Grammar and then beyond our gates ,” - Tim O’Connor, Headmaster.
