Three HUIA titles in 2015 Nga Kupu Ora Award finalists

The shortlist of New Zealand’s top Māori books for 2014 has been announced ahead of this year’s Massey University Ngā Kupu Ora Aotearoa Māori Book Awards and HUIA Publishers have three titles in the running.

The three finalists are:

Ahuwhenua: A History of Māori Farming by Danny Keenan - one of three finalists in the Te Kōrero Pono - Non-Fiction category.
Parekura Horomia: Kia Ora Chief by Wira Gardiner - one of two finalists in the Te Haurongo - Biography category.
The Value of the Māori Language: Te Hua o te Reo Māori by Rawinia Higgins, Poia Rewi and Vincent Olsen-Reeder - one of three finalists in the Te Reo Māori category.
Assistant Vice Chancellor Dr Selwyn Katene says Massey University’s commitment to Ngā Kupu Ora Aotearoa Māori Book Awards is an indication of the importance of Māori literature.
“When you look at the depth of this year’s entries and the important issues they discuss, you can see why we need to nurture Māori writers”, he says.

Winners of the six categories will be announced at an Awards ceremony at Te Papa in Wellington on September 10 2015.
