Forest & Bird supports Sanford's offer to stop fishing in Hauraki Gulf if all fishers record and report catch

Short statement:

Forest & Bird said yesterday's announcement is a positive one that shows real leadership by the commercial sector and we commend Sanfords for making this announcement. We know first hand from discussions it's not an easy decision, but we believe alongside a range of other management options it's a great start to improving the health / mauri of the Hauraki Gulf.

We know there is more work and on-going engagement required, but we look forward to Sanford's challenge, and we will continue to work with Sanfords and the other fishers operating in the Hauraki Gulf, including the recreational sector.
