nzsecretsanta 2015 now open

#nzsecretsanta 2015 now open

Registrations for New Zealand Post’s popular online Christmas game #nzsecretsanta are now open, and this year, former refugee families will be benefitting from the game.

Last year, 2619 Kiwis signed up to play #nzsecretsanta on Twitter, up from 1500 in 2013. The New Zealand women’s cricket team, the White Ferns, will be amongst the first to register to play this year, bringing a competitive edge to the game.

New Zealand Post Sponsorship spokesperson Charles Ropitini said the online version of the popular Christmas game, led by the community and coordinated by New Zealand Post, has grown from strength to strength.

“Secret Santa, known as #nzsecretsanta on Twitter, is about spreading holiday cheer and putting New Zealand Post’s extensive network to a charitable use at Christmas time,” Charles Ropitini said.

“The charity component of the game is as important to the online #nzsecretsanta community as it is to New Zealand Post. Last year the community donated around 200 gifts to the Christchurch City Mission.

“This year, donations will be made to the New Zealand Red Cross which will distribute Christmas gifts to new Kiwi families who have come to New Zealand as refugees.”

#nzsecretsanta players will be given the option of sending an additional gift to Santa’s storehouse for the Red Cross to distribute to families.

New Zealand Post has also set up a new Give a little campaign this year and people are also most welcome to donate to that at: https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/nzsecretsanta2015

“2015 marks 100 years of humanitarian work for the New Zealand Red Cross. It’s a big milestone and one New Zealand Post wanted to mark with a charitable contribution this holiday season,” Charles Ropitini said.

“Registrations close on Tuesday 24 November this year and we are again relying on our army of Twitter elves to spread the word to get as many players in on the fun as possible,” Charles Ropitini said.
