Ignite Sport attends international sports conference

Hutt Valley youth development organisation Ignite Sport Trust is representing New Zealand at an international sports conference in Orlando, U.S.

Kevin Goldsbury, who heads up the charity, is joined by youth development staff Dan Olive and Matt Goldsbury at the sports networking conference from 11-17 November. The three were invited along with more than 500 representatives from 148 countries. Two others from Auckland are also representing New Zealand.

Mr Goldsbury explains the conference aims to empower, support and resource organisations working in sports.

“Sport is happening in the largest cities of the world, on the smallest islands, in deserts and jungles, in schools, prisons and refugee camps, in war-torn regions and after disasters. In every community you will find sport and play. It makes sense to use sport creatively to serve people around the world,” he says.

Ignite Sport uses the opportunities sports provide to impact young people’s lives. The Trust’s youth development programmes are delivered in several schools throughout the Wellington Region, including Wainuiomata Intermediate and High School, Hutt Valley High School, Naenae College, Heretaunga College, Otaki college and Porirua College.

Programmes encourage young people to make the most of their opportunities and potential through a variety of leadership, personal and life-skill workshops alongside sporting activities.
