Craig Elliott – Abandoned Theme Park EP
Cassette compilation from Amsterdam-based-Kiwi due for release December 11th 2015.
Having found himself lost in Amsterdam, ex-Wellington musician Craig Elliott has resurfaced from the hazy environment of Damrak with a compilation of his previous online only offerings. Abandoned Theme Park will be available on limited edition cassette tape and the usual streaming/digital services from December 11th.
Describing his work as a “pretty minimalist, bedroom recording kinda deal”, Elliott left Wellington in late 2012, basing himself in London for a number of years and then finally traversing to the decadent surroundings of Amsterdam. Perhaps culture shock, perhaps something less dramatic, the musical output is part unnerving “man on the verge of a nervous breakdown”, part euphoric punk.
A reissue of both Elliott's Au Revoir, Psycho and Evil Billet-Doux EP's, which first surfaced online in 2014 and then a year later, Abandoned Theme Park lends itself to the mercurial compositions of Melt Banana, Deerhoof and The Mint Chicks. While the material to some may not be new, to many others it has been something of a revelation – with BBC 6 Music's Tom Robinson championing Elliott on his “Introducing” mixtape and appearances at UK festival Nozstock and Dutch festival Popronde.
“Messy and illogical and ever so slightly wonderful” - Simon Sweetman, Off The Tracks.
