Trampoline gymnasts from around the globe will be bouncing into Napier’s Pettigrew Green Arena October 21 - 25, for the 2016 Indo Pacific Championships.

Auckland, 3rd December 2015: GymSports New Zealand (NZ), the national governing body for gymnastics sports, announces that Napier will play host city to the five day international trampoline and tumbling spectacular.

Rotorua hosted the 2008 event which saw our NZ team stand their ground against 180 athletes from six nations (Australia, Japan, Qatar, Argentina, South Africa and Canada). With international trampoline events currently hitting record numbers, a bigger field is expected to make their way to Napier for the 2016 Championships. Canada, Hong Kong and Australia have already expressed interest in attending.

Athletes will compete in age groups from 11 years to adult, in individual and synchronised trampoline, double mini-tramp and tumbling disciplines.

“We are excited to be working with GymSports NZ on the first international event of its kind here at the Pettigrew Green Arena (PGA) - events of this calibre would usually go to the big cities. There is a huge amount of passion for gymsports in the region and we look forward to getting behind it and showcasing what the Hawkes Bay has to offer.” - Dan Rodden, General Manager, Pettigrew Green Arena.

“Indos (Pacific Championships) is a global signature event for the sport and we are tremendously excited to be hosting it here in NZ. Some of the world’s best trampoline and tumbling exponents from around the globe will showcase some extraordinary talent, and will be met by a strong NZ Team, led by our world ranked top 10 athletes Dylan Schmidt and Bronwyn Dibb. In an Olympic year without a World Championships, this is a great slot on the international calendar to own.” - Tony Compier, CEO, GymSports NZ.

“Rotorua showcased a unique culture and heritage in 2008 and we look forward to returning to New Zealand and making new friends in Napier next year.”
- Pam Ferrari, Secretary General, Indo Pacific Trampoline and Tumbling Championships.
