Seven Davis Jr. (Ninja Tune) first ever Wellington show
Live from the US, Seven Davis Jr. (Ninja Tune) performs first ever Wellington show
Saturday 9 January, Plimmer Steps, Wellington (Above the Hideaway Bar)
From a future not so far away, Strange Behaviour in association with Radioactive.fm bring you Seven Davis Jr. (USA), one of the voices of 2015, direct from outer space for his first ever appearance in Wellington.
Eclectic LA-based singer/songwriter Seven Davis Jr, whose debut album Universes was released by the infamous UK label Ninja Tune in 2015 to both critical and fan acclaim, performs live in Wellington for the first time.
He’s been compared to Prince, and his live show challenges the conventions of the dance music genre. It’s incredibly exciting to have him perform in a unique warehouse space in the Wellington CBD, alongside a quality support line up featuring Ügly Disco, Cave Circles and the Flava DJs.

Born in Texas (and raised in a gospel family) the Los Angeles resident, Seven Davis Jr. delivers a brand of futuristic electronic soul that calls upon the influence of Detroit pioneers Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins as much as it does pop extroverts Prince and Stevie Wonder. Following an upbringing in Northern California, where soul and disco classics were part of a young Seven’s diet, he delved deeper into more experimental music, and in 2012 debuted internationally on Kutmah's Worldwide Family Vol. 2 (Brownswood Recordings) with the track 'Thanks’.
Since then, other releases have included the One EP for Must Have Records, and P.A.R.T.Y. EP for Funkineven’s Apron Records, before striking a deal with legendary UK imprint Ninja Tune, resulting in his highly acclaimed debut LP, Universes. Besides this, SDJ's vocals have been in huge demand, and he’s collaborated with some of the biggest names in electronic music, including Hot Chip, Julio Bashmore, Four Tet, Jesse Rose, and Doc Daneeka. Currently recording his follow-up to Universes, Seven’s a superstar of the future just waiting to happen.
