Legendary ‘Corky’ Coker to speak at Warbirds & Wheels

Legendary ‘Corky’ Coker to speak at Warbirds & Wheels in Wanaka at one-off event

Legendary figure head of the Coker Tire Company, Joseph 'Corky' Coker, will make a special guest appearance at Wanaka's Warbirds & Wheels on Monday 25 January to discuss the art of collecting and restoring classic cars.

Coker Tires is a worldwide supplier of specialty collector vehicle tires with distributors in more than 30 countries and 'Corky' is widely regarded as an expert on collecting and restoring antique automobiles and motorcycles.

Included in his collection are more than 50 collector cars and 20 vintage motorcycles. 'Corky' speaks frequently regarding the collector car hobby, “clunker bill” legislation in the US, and the future of the automotive restoration market. He's also considered an expert antique vehicle appraiser by leading collector and auto insurance companies.

Warbirds & Wheels director Robert Duncan said Corky was “an excellent voice on all things classic car”.

“He’s certainly at the forefront of classic car restoration and to have him impart some of his wealth of knowledge-and of course anecdotes- is a real privilege,” said Mr Duncan.

Corky will be the guest speaker at a drinks night to be held at Warbirds & Wheels, Wanaka Airport on Monday January 25 2016, 5.30-7.30pm. There will be a chance for a question and answer session with the crowd and mix and mingle.

Tickets for the event are $25 per person and include nibbles and a drink on arrival (cash bar also available). Tickets include entry to the Warbirds & Wheels Classic Car and Aviation Museum and are available from Warbirds & Wheels by calling 03 443 7010.

Most recently Corky was honored by receiving the Meguiar’s Award as the 2004 Collector Car Person of the Year, 2005 NHRA Lifetime Achievement Award, and 2005 ARMO Person of the Year.

“We’re extremely privileged to have Corky speak in Wanaka, it’s a rare and unique opportunity to hear from one of the world’s best,” said Mr Duncan.
