Liam Macdonald Seeks Another Podium

Young Invercargill driver Liam MacDonald will be seeking another podium when he contests Round 4 of the BNT NZ Touring Car Series at Mike Pero Motorsport Park at Ruapuna in Christchurch this weekend.

Budget restrictions mean the 18-year-old MacDonald only contests a handful of rounds at national level each year but he has a phenomenal strike rate when he does, having taken several podiums plus a race and round win at the highest level already. Such was the case last year at Mike Pero Motorsport Park when he gained a round podium in his first visit to the Canterbury circuit.

He also gained a podium at his most recent appearance in the series, at Pukekohe in November at the massive ITM 500 V8 Supercar meeting, where despite being the youngest driver in Class 2 he finished third overall for the weekend in his GT Radial Ford Falcon.

Liam is looking forward to returning to the 3.33 kilometre Ruapuna circuit. "It's a pretty good track, quite technical. I've only been there once but I am keen to get back on the podium."

Since Pukekohe in November Liam has had one further outing, a club event at his home track of Teretonga in Invercargill. Since then the Ford Falcon has had some routine maintenance. "We have freshened the diff and gearbox," says Liam. After this weekend's outing the series makes its way to Teretonga, Liam's home track, a round he is very much looking forward to.

MacDonald has support from GT Radial NZ, Auto Windscreen Replacement Ltd, BNT Invercargill, Southern Bolts & Fasteners, Auto Fab, NAC Insurance, DAL Photographics, Discount Tyres Invercargill and Sport Scholarships with the Community Trust of Southland and the ILT Foundation.
