Paquin's New Ep IIIOut Today
Paquin have been a driving force in Auckland music over the past four years, their unusual sound a compelling cross-section of dance, shoegaze and electro-pop.
The band, fronted by engineer Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Popstrangers, Jamie McDell, Jen Cloher, Die! Die! Die!), and featuring members of Proton Beast and Tiny Ruins, have won over audiences and listeners alike to earn a nomination for the VNZMA Critics’ Choice Music Prize in 2013.
Today the third and final in their three-part EP series, III, hits the streets, marking the culmination of a sprawling, tripartite release. With pummelling waves of sugary, electric pulses harking to the likes epic dance-pop of M83, Paquin bring anthemic hooks in bucketloads, as evidenced from III’s first outing, Get Here. It’s a perfect piece of unabashed pop; shimmering synthesisers and crashing drum rolls iced with an intoxicating earworm of a melody.
The release show takes place on 23 January (tomorrow) at Auckland's Wine Cellar. If tripped-out dream-pop doused in the sounds of shoegaze might be your thing, be sure to head along.
