Oscar-nominated filmmaker to tour NZ

Oscar-nominated Palestinian filmmaker Emad Burnat will pay a rare visit at the end of this month.

He will be touring New Zealand with his acclaimed film 5 Broken Cameras.The film won an Emmy, was nominated for ‘best documentary feature’ at the Academy Awards and was awarded by the Sundance Film Festival.

5 Broken Cameras is a moving account of life in Bil’in, a village in occupied Palestine's West Bank. When the Israeli army decides to build a huge separation wall through their lands, the village responds with peaceful resistance.

Over five years (and five destroyed cameras), Bil'in resident Emad Burnat records what The Guardian described as “one of the best, most involving documentaries”.

The film follows two threads: the struggles of a family and their community to resist the loss of their lands, alongside a moving record of a young child’s growth from baby into a young boy.

The film is a Palestinian-Israeli-French co-production, co-directed by Israeli filmmaker Guy Davidi.

Special screenings, followed by Q&A sessions will be hosted on the following dates:
