Diary Note

Diary Note

When: Saturday 27th February 2016

Time: On Stage Rehearsal (approx 1pm), Competitive Performance (approx 7.30pm)

Where: Vodafone Events Centre, Manukau, Auckland

What: The Hip Op-eration Crew (hip hop dancers aged 71 to 96 years old) will be competing on stage in the Auckland Regional Hip Hop Championships. This is the only opportunity for you to see these dancers perform on a large stage with a youth audience. Their routine is seriously impressive and four times faster than previous performances.

Who: The Hip Op-eration Crew are the oldest dance troupe in the world (Guinness World Records) and have an average age of 80 years old. They are the subject of an award winning feature documentary film called Hip Hop-eration.

Which: The Auckland Regional Hip Hop Championships. If the Hip Op-eration Crew advance to the National Hip Hop Championships in April, the news media won't be able to film them as the organisers have given exclusive media rights to Maori Television. So 27th February is the only opportunity to get footage of these extraordinary dancers competing.

How: The 7 members of the Hip Op-eration Crew will be travelling from Waiheke Island to Manukau in the morning of 27th February and then returning that night. They have rehearsals on Waiheke Island on Tues 23rd Feb and Thurs 25th at 4.30pm in preparation for the competition. The music they will be dancing to is privately commissioned - so no copyright issues.
