Ross Back in Championship Winning Car at Manfeild
Ross Back in Championship Winning Car at Manfeild
Nick Ross clambered back into his championship winning car of the 2013-14 season after a significant parts failure in the Nissan on Friday forced the team into making the change in order to continue in the sixth round of the BNT NZ Touring Cars at Manfeild Autocourse in Feilding last weekend 12-14 February.
This is the second season Concept Motorsport and Ross have competed the TOTAL Lubricants Nissan Altima since winning the NZV8 Touring Cars Championship in 2014 in the Holden which has since been sold.
"Most teams would have gone home on Friday night but none of us wanted to give up so we got something else underway and just got on with it." said Ross.
James McLaughlin from Lower Hutt was not competing at Manfeild and quickly offered Ross and Concept Motorsport the car to use as a replacement for the stricken Nissan.
"Luckily for us James was kind enough to let us borrow the car and a big thanks for that and also for driving the car up to meet us halfway. Because of him and all who threw themselves into getting the car prepared we didn't have to give up on the weekend's racing." said Ross.
Some quick work was also needed in order to get the correct signage on the car before hitting the track with help from Feilding's TOTAL Lubricants agent.
"And also thanks to Greg and Theresa from GT Oils in Feilding for helping us transform the car back into the TOTAL Lubricants Commodore." said Ross.
Ross quickly came to grips with his old friend around the circuit at Manfeild Park although not all went smoothly with his experiencing braking problems in the first two races.
"It was not too bad being back in my old car although we had some issues with the brakes in the first couple of races and had to concentrate on getting to the end of the race which had us a little off the pace." said Ross.
"Overall we had another very enjoyable weekend of racing and look forward to doing it all again at the next round at Pukekohe." he said.
Ross placed seventh in both the first and second races of the weekend with a sixth place in the final race on Sundayafternoon and currently stands at eighth in the overall standings with one round remaining.
The BNT NZ Touring Cars will return to Pukekohe Park raceway over the weekend of 16-17 April for the final meeting of the 2015-16 season.
Nick Ross, the TOTAL Lubricants Nissan Altima and Concept Motorsport are sponsored by TOTAL Lubricants, Jim Wright Nissan, Ryco 24/7, C&R Developments, Connex, Team Wino, Auto Trail Ltd, 82oc, and Tyre Traders.
