Poetry Slams Into Wanaka
Two internationally renowned U.S. Poetry Champions Come to teach in the Otago Region.
This April, the Wanaka Autumn Art School will be home to two American poetry slam champions.
Carrie Rudzinski and Ken Arkind will be teaching two poetry and creative writing courses at the renowned Autumn Art School.
Both published authors who have performed around the globe, Ken Arkind is an American National Poetry Slam Champion and Carrie Rudzinski ranked 4th in the world at the 2014 Women of the World Poetry Slam. Known for their exhilarating and emotional performances, Ken and Carrie have worked with the Auckland Readers and Writers Festival, the Nelson Arts Festival, the New Zealand National Poetry Slam, Rising Voices Youth Poetry Slam, The Michael King Writers’ Centre, University of Auckland, University of Canterbury, and Manukau Institute of Technology.
Their two courses offered can be taken separately or in conjunction. Slam Poetry: The Noise Inside Our Chest is a writing intensive that offers participants the chance to explore their personal narratives and identities in a safe and encouraging space. The second course, Bringing Your Poem to Life, offers essential workshopping to any performer and guaranteed to help everyone gain confidence on stage with public speaking. Sign up now!
