Explorama 2016

Explorama 2016

Sat 5 And Sun 6 Mar 2016, 10AM - 5PM
Atrium, Free with Museum Entry

Auckland War Memorial Museum is excited to announce Explorama 2016, the Museum’s biennial Natural Sciences festival. Explorama gives children and their families the chance to get hands on with the objects in the Museum’s collections and discover what goes on behind the scenes.

Children can take on the role of a scientist and explore the theme of 'movement' with our curators and collection managers. Activities include exploring natural history displays in the atrium and behind-the-scenes tours of restricted areas, including collection storage spaces and curatorial labs to see how objects are prepared for research and display.

Behind the scenes tours of the Museum include exploring the collections of Land Vertebrates (reptiles, birds and mammals), Entomology (insects), Marine, Botany and more. There’ll be chance to discover wildlife outside the Museum with tours of the birdlife, insects, fungi and spiders of Auckland Domain, including a Monarch Butterfly release.

Explorama also includes the participation of externals guests and organizations from the science communities. For more information and to see the full list of participants go to: http://www.aucklandmuseum.com/whats-on/kids-and-family/explorama
