Bridgestone gives $71,000 to The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation
On Monday February 15, The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (The NZBCF) was presented with a cheque for more than $71,000 from Bridgestone New Zealand, at the company’s annual awards dinner.
The funds were raised by Bridgestone’s 2015 ‘Pink my ride’ Pink Cap campaign. More than $650,000 has been raised for early detection of breast cancer, education, supporting those with the disease, research and medical grants, since the campaign first began in 2008.
The ‘Pink my ride’ campaign sells Pink Caps – caps that go on any tyre with a valve, in Bridgestone Select, Bridgestone Tyre Centre, and Firestone stores, as well as online at bridgestonepinkcaps.co.nz throughout Breast Cancer Month every October.
John Staples, Associate Director NZ Business for Bridgestone New Zealand, says: “We are delighted to have been able to present this cheque to The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation and are proud of the Bridgestone team for all the effort they have put in to reach this figure.
“Unfortunately, breast cancer is something that has touched the lives of many of the Bridgestone team in some way. We are pleased to support New Zealand women and The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation in helping kick this nasty disease to the kerb, through the funds raised by our Pink Caps.”
Evangelia Henderson, Chief Executive of The NZBCF, says: “Pink Caps have been a highly visible part of Breast Cancer Month for eight years now. We’re so grateful to Bridgestone and to everyone who has bought Pink Caps for their support of our work. It was a great feeling to formalise the donation at the awards ceremony.”
Staples says Bridgestone is looking to raise even more for The NZBCF in the 2016 campaign, with some exciting changes and additions set to be announced. “Watch this space,” he says.
