2016 Raetihi Gutbuster
The Thunderbirds countdown will be ringing out again in the main street of Raetihi as The 6th Annual Raetihi Gutbuster rocks and rolls on March 27.
This quirky, cycling and running event, takes place on Easter Sunday on the Raetihi – Pipiriki Road. Originally created in 2010 to celebrate the sealing of this historic road, once part of the main route between Wellington and Auckland, this years event gets to celebrate the re-sealing all over again, after last years June floods destroyed the road in three places, cutting off access to Pipiriki and the rest of the Whanganui River road.
It’s all fixed up again now, just in time for the hardy folks who either cycle or run/walk the Out and Back course which starts and finishes outside the Waimarino Museum. There are various options to suit most fitness levels. The scenery is superb, the spot prizes are numerous, Jessie Seaman has been baking up a storm, and there are no speeches. For more details visit the website atwww.rideruapehu.com or call Mike and Lucy on 06 3853123. Run entirely by volunteers, any funds raised go straight back into the town via Raetihi Promotions Charitable Trust.
