TEDxWellington 2016 Talks Are Live

The talks from TEDxWellington 2016, held on the 5th March, are now available to watch online via tedxwellington.com/blog

The event brought together 13 speakers and performers for an incredible day of ‘ideas worth sharing’, covering a diverse range of topics:

• Glenis Hiria Philip-Barbara - inspiring a million conversations in Te Reo Māori
• Pamela Bell - the prefab housing puzzle
• Sacha Copland - why we should dance
• David Andrew Eccles - DNA sequencing that stimulates the sensors
• Charles Babb - why diversity is key for creative teams
• Fiona King - the future of funerals and caring for our dead
• Laurinda Thomas - why libraries still matter
• Michael Armstrong - how street performers build trust
• Dr Shaun Holt - the healing power of honey
• Asher - creating music from old technology
• Deborah Morris-Travers - hearing the voices of our children, plus
• Marie Fitzpatrick and Nic Murray - baking kindness into the world

With this year’s TEDxWellington theme being ‘trust’, organisers kept key details secret until the day including the venue location, speaker line-up and programme. This approach has never before been done before at a TEDx event anywhere in the world.

“Wellington is a leader in creativity and unique ideas, and TEDxWellington was the perfect place for us to experiment with the idea of asking the delegates to ‘trust us’,” said producer and license holder DK.

“It’s been tough keeping the details secret for so long but it was all worth it on the day. We’re honoured to have had the support of the Wellington community to enable us to put on an unforgettable day.”

The venue was revealed to be Park Road Post Production, Sir Peter Jackson’s post-production facility in Miramar.

“We were privileged to be approached by Park Road, who invited us to hold TEDxWellington at their venue. Their technical and creative excellence made them an ideal fit with our innovative approach,” said DK.

Tickets for TEDxWellington sold out in only two minutes (another record), and 12 livestream events were offered around the region, as far afield as Masterton and Whanganui. The livestream had 5,643 unique views, more than twice last year’s views.
“We’re already working hard on securing a venue for next year’s event, and we’ll continue to craft unique and exciting TEDx experiences for Wellington,” said DK.
