Burning Man Art Installation to Launch Campaign in Auckland

A uniquely New Zealand art installation created for Burning Man being built in Auckland is set to launch its crowdfunding campaign on April 20th. The Giant Weta installation is a 5m long steel giant weta which will shoot flames from its antennae.

The installation will be transported to Burning Man before returning to New Zealand to feature at Kiwiburn - New Zealand’s Regional Burning Man event - and will eventually be installed permanently in New Zealand.

As well as being the largest insect in the world, the giant weta is native to New Zealand. The uniqueness and interactivity being incorporated into the Artwork will enable participants to connect with a part of New Zealand whilst at the annual event – an experiment in temporary community and art.

The public are invited to join the Auckland Burners as they launch their crowdfunding campaign and new build space at 113 Valley Road, Mount Eden, Auckland from 7:30pm on April 20th.

Auckland Burners are a group of Kiwiburners from New Zealand’s largest city who meet fortnightly throughout the year to share ideas. As a collective, they have collaborated to select, design and build an interactive art piece to take to Burning Man, Nevada, in 2016.
