New equestrian e-magazine website launches
A free to read online magazine that celebrates New Zealand equestrian culture launched earlier this month.
The first issue of Equine Online, a monthly e-magazine, launched on www.equineonline.co.nz on April 1.
Editor, Yvette Morrissey said she was thrilled with how the magazine was received.
“The feedback I’ve heard has been incredibly positive. I’m really excited to be able to bring a quality magazine to horse lovers for free. Horse riding is an expensive hobby so I wanted to offer something for free that riders can learn from and enjoy.”
The magazine had over 1,000 views on the first day of its release.
The website and magazine will focus on local horses and riders, from grass-roots to the highest levels of competition across all disciplines. It features the latest news, interviews with local riders, event coverage and advice columns.
Miss Morrissey came up with the idea to launch Equine Online because there was nothing like it on offer in New Zealand.
“It made sense to me to create an online magazine because that’s where print media is heading, and that’s where the bulk of horse riders are too. Social media has exploded in recent years.”
She also felt every day horse riders weren’t being targeted by existing media.
“Every horse rider in New Zealand has their own incredible story- from the complete beginner through to the experienced competitor; everyone has something interesting to share. I thought, ‘there is no way these stories are going to be shared with the world if I don’t write them’,” she said.
She also wants to cover all equestrian disciplines, such as racing, endurance and western riding.
“It is important to me that there is something for everyone to read.”
The website will also keep New Zealand equestrians up to date with the latest news and events in between issues of the magazine.
Anyone who is passionate about horses has the opportunity to contribute to the magazine.
“I encourage anyone who is passionate about horses to contribute to the magazine. It is important that local horse riders have a forum to share their knowledge and voice their opinions.”
Equine Online is released on the first of every month and is available to read at www.equineonline.co.nz
