MaD
CrossFit will be holding their 007 (seventh) ‘Bad As’
Women’s Weightlifting competition on Saturday, 4 June 2016
with lifting beginning at 9am. Bad As 007 is the sole
women’s only, weightlifting competition in New Zealand and
is held to encourage participation in weightlifting by women
from any sporting background.
“Lifting heavy weights is beneficial for many reasons; not least of which is they make you ‘Bad As’. The day is all about supporting women to get strong, reach their strength goals and have fun lifting heavy.” says Donna Dyson co-owner and coach at MaD CrossFit.
“This year all 60 entries sold out in a matter of minutes which tells us that more and more women are interested in, and are participating in strength training; and that the demand is there for more competitions like Bad As.”
The competition is open to any female lifter aged 18 and over, and judging recognises the top three lifters per kilo of body weight. The competition involves three lifts: back squat, bench press and ground to overhead. In addition there will also be a strong woman/CrossFit style workout as part of the competition.
Matt Dyson co-owner and coach as MaD CrossFit says Bad As 007 is also about giving as well as lifting. All funds raised through the competition are donated to a charity nominated by each entrant.
“The donations raised as part of Bad As 007 reflect the community aspect of CrossFit. Last year we raised money for a range of charities. In addition, we have over $3000 in product donations from our sponsors – so its win/win for everyone.”
Entries have sold out, but spectators are free so take the opportunity to get down and see some 007 girls getting ‘bad as’.
