Gale Force Gospel will present its annual concert at St John’s in the City, cnr Dixon and Willis Streets on Saturday 25 June at 7.30pm. The choir which sings acapella (unaccompanied by instruments) will delight their audience with a programme of gospel music, from the USA and elsewhere. They will be joined by special guests, Kapiti Gospel Choir.
Founded five years ago, the choir grew out of a workshop
held by New Zealand song leader Tony Backhouse and,
Gale Force continue to sing many gospel
arrangements written by Tony. Numbering about 50, the choir
is open to all singers without audition and regardless of
experience, religion, race or creed. An important part of
the burgeoning community singing scene in the Capital,
Gale Force Gospel are led by composer and
choral leader Carol Shortis.
Gale Force
Gospel perform regularly around Wellington for a
variety of audiences however this will be their last public
performance before heading to Tasmania for Australia’s
premier celebration of voice, Festival of Voices. Now in its eleventh
year, the Festival attracts thousands of singers, choristers
and music lovers from Australia and around the world for a
programme of outstanding performances and vocal
workshops.
