The power of the imagination

The power of the imagination

Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It’s … whatever power you choose for them.

Off the Cuff, Nelson’s own improv troupe is promising to go “to infinity and beyond” in this months’ show at the Theatre Royal.

Off the Cuff: Our Powers Combined is combining the improvisation powers of guest improviser Dan Allan with Laura Irish, Glenn Cousins, Jennifer Arai and musical improvisation by Roger Sanders and MCed by Isaac Thomas.

Dan started improvising with the Court Jesters in New Zealand’s longest running comedy show Scared Scriptless and took part in a swathe of other improvised shows, such as Fairyable, Radio Haha and A Very Merry Scriptless. In 2010 he moved to Nelson and established the Deep End through his theatre company Body in Space and organised the annual Theatresports competitions for the region.

“We are delighted to have enticed Dan back on stage to combine his improvisation skills with our own for this months’ show”, said Off the Cuff artistic director Laura Irish.

Using their powers combined they’ll belt out some power ballads, embrace a bit of flower power, use their will power, get a bit shagedelic with Austin Powers or maybe just join Grey Power.

Off the Cuff combines spontaneous comedy, drama, music, poetry and physical theatre to create scenes using suggestions from the audience.

Off the Cuff: Our Powers Combined ... Friday 24 June 7.30pm at the Theatre Royal. Bookings are available through Ticket Direct or from the Theatre Royal.
