Ōtāhuhu Library launches art and culture lecture series
Ōtāhuhu Library launches exciting art and culture lecture series.

“Our people. Our stories.”
This is the slogan for Tōia Talks, the exciting free lecture series launching at Ōtāhuhu Pātaka Kōrero Ōtāhuhu Library this month.
The bi-monthly series is aimed at ‘Convening community leaders, social activators, and change-makers to share stories and offer better solutions for a better world.’
“This is a great opportunity to hear the stories from Ōtāhuhu told by people from Ōtāhuhu,” said Ōtāhuhu Community Librarian, Barry O’Callaghan. “We’re really excited to launch this art and culture series and we look forward to hearing the stories that come out of it.”
The inaugural Tōia Talks lecture features filmmaker, Paul Janman and historian, Scott Hamilton who will discuss their feature documentary, ‘Fragments of the Great South Road’ and screen footage from the film.
Janman and Hamilton walked the two hundred kilometre road talking with locals, historians, and artists about living along this historic road.
The Great South Road was built to bring a British army into the Māori Waikato Kingdom. It runs from the edge of King Country at the Puniu River up the Great South Road to Newmarket in central Auckland.
Tōia Talks launches at 630pm on Thursday, 22 September at Ōtāhuhu Pātaka Kōrero Ōtāhuhu Library at 28 Mason Avenue. It is supported and funded by the Māngere- Ōtāhuhu Local Board.
