Auckland music fans are in for a stunning summer
of stadium concert acts with today’s announcement that
Bruce Springsteen will return to Mt Smart Stadium with the E
Street Band for a show on Saturday 25 February 2017.
When they return, it will be three years since Springsteen and the E Street Band last performed two sold-out shows at Mt Smart Stadium and demand is expected to be high once again.
The announcement adds to what is already shaping as one of Auckland’s busiest outdoor concert seasons, says Paul Nisbet, Director Auckland Stadiums, which is a business unit of Regional Facilities Auckland (RFA).
Mr Nisbet said the announcement follows bookings for Coldplay’s Head Full of Dreams Tour (Saturday 3 December 2016 at Mt Smart Stadium); Guns N’ Roses Not in this Lifetime Tour (Saturday 4 February 2017 at Western Springs); and Auckland City Limits (Saturday March 11 2017 at Western Springs).
“Our venues have been among the busiest outdoor concert venues in the Asia-Pacific region in recent years, which demonstrates the demand for international stadium shows in Auckland and the versatility of our facilities,” he said.
“Over the summer of 2015-16, our venues hosted around 190,000 fans at outdoor concerts and we expect we will overtake that in 2016-17.”
Frontier Touring head Michael Gudinski said the Auckland stadium venues run by Regional Facilities Auckland presented a great mix of options for outdoor shows.
“In the past five years, New Zealand has noticeably and enthusiastically embraced live music events. This hunger for great live music, coupled with the capacity and facilities of the RFA venues, has made Auckland a highly desirable stop for major outdoor concerts. We’re delighted to be returning with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band to Mt Smart Stadium this summer.”
