Literary Salon returns to San Fran in November
Their Women of Letters events have been big hits with Wellington audiences, and co-curators Michaela McGuire and Marieke Hardy have confirmed they will return to the capital with a one-off People of Letters salon on the evening of Sunday 13 November.
Held at the relaxed San Fran music venue on Cuba Street, People of Letters will bring together writers, poets, publishers, and pen pals who have all been invited to write and deliver a letter addressed “to my other half”.
The People of Letters line-up will include former Wellington Labour MP and previous Wellington Mayor Fran Wilde paired with her friend, Labour MP for Central Wellington, Grant Robertson; Mr Pip author Lloyd Jones with his partner Carrie Tiffany, author of Mateship With Birds; and award-winning poet Hera Lindsay Bird with fellow poet (and her pen pal of many years), Gregory Kan.
Michaela McGuire, who has taken the Letters salons around the world, says audiences should expect a unique and intimate evening at San Fran. “The stage will be awash with warmth and curious tales of affection, bringing together the heady combination of sentiment and sauvignon blanc audiences have grown to know and love,” she said.
LitCrawl Director and co-producer of People of Letters, Claire Mabey urges people to get their tickets to this special event, asap. “Women of Letters is now a much-loved global phenomenon, and its New Zealand shows have previously sold out. Don’t miss out on hearing some of Aotearoa’s finest writers deliver moving missives to people who matter to them most,” Claire said.
