CHCH NZ surf rock band The Wendys to release debut single

Christchurch’s surf rock misfits The Wendys are releasing their debut single, On The Committee, this Halloween.

Dressed as lifeguards to save the musically drowned, The Wendys are the drunken threesome love child of Link Wray, Dick Dale and Buddy Holly. Their surf rock and garage punk has seen them headline major international surf comps and the Punch Club stage, with a blistering set at Nostalgia Festival 2016 alongside Tami Neilson and The Phoenix Foundation.

The Wendys are dropping their debut single ‘On The Committee’, along with B-side ‘Salmon Joe’ on 31 October 2016, available via Bandcamp and on limited edition clear vinyl.

To celebrate the release of the 7” and the return of summer, The Wendys are throwing a party at Blue Smoke, Saturday November 5, with Hawaiian Maiden, fresh from supporting Reverend Horton Heat, and the aloha tiki sounds of DJ Dick Martin.

On the face of it, Everhardus Koster's exceptional genre painting The Arrival of Abel Tasman in New Zealand should have immense appeal. It cannot find a buyer, however, not because of any aesthetic defects, but because of its subject matter and the fate of the Māori it depicts. More
