Roger Mortimer, Approaches
to Waitangi, 2016, watercolour, gold dust and acrylic
lacquer on canvas, 700 x 750 mm
Roger Mortimer's latest exhibition comprises six paintings including one 3.2 metre triptych which is his largest painting to date. Bartley + Company Art is extending the duration of this exhibition until Saturday 3 December 2016, to allow you more time to view these distinctive works that explore medieval graphic imagery drawn from illustrated manuscripts of the 14th century Dante poem 'Divine Comedy' set on a backdrop of New Zealand marine charts. The works resonate powerfully with contemporary global issues and turmoil to suggest both psychological and political readings, and the human capacity for both evil and redemption.
