Aucklanders Treated to Fire Fest

Aucklanders Treated to Fire Fest

20 of January 2016

Aucklanders will have world-leading pyro artististry on show tomorrow at the Ignite Light Show at Ellerslie Racecourse.

Thousands are expected to attend the event which will feature laser light shows, a choreographed hot air balloon display, and fire performances.

Logan Elliott, founder of entertainment company Highly Flammable, says the two fire shows are set to be the most spectacular his company’s ever done.

A highlight of Elliott’s year was running the entertainment at the Festa del Fuoco on Europe’s most active volcano: the island of Stromboli off the coast of Sicily. It’s one of the world’s most famous fire festivals.

“From a volcano island to a city of volcanoes: Auckland, like Stromboli, has fire at its very core. There’s something so visceral about fire shows that resonates with young and old, and we promise Aucklanders they’re in for one of the most spectacular shows of their lives,” says Elliott.

As well as integrating experiences from Italy’s pyro festival into the Auckland fire shows, Highly Flammable has imported brand new equipment from Europe which has rarely been seen in New Zealand.

The fire tools are constructed by a specialised company in Hungary and include fire skirts, fire crowns and a flaming skipping rope.

Highly Flammable was cofounded by Elliott during his Masters of Entrepreneurship at Otago University in 2010 and has since become New Zealand’s premiere specialised event entertainment company.

It’s also a global leader in fire performance artistry, which is massively growing in popularity worldwide.

“Humans have been able to control fire for more than 100,000 years, and we’ve been fascinated by it’s raw power and beauty ever since,” says Elliott.

“Shaping and manipulating it to make art is the latest evolution in mankind’s relationship with fire and it’s exciting to be able to present the very best of what we can do to Aucklanders on Saturday.”
