Handel in the House & Tchaikovsky in the Garden
Handel in the House & Tchaikovsky in the Garden
___________________________________________________________
A stunning modern villa in an old garden in Days Bay on Wellington Harbour provides the venue for a special summer festival of opera this February.
This February, Rhona is producing two operas on successive evenings that will enable you to enjoy glorious music in the stunning surroundings of the house and the garden.
She will stage Handel’s Theodora (which the composer considered to be his most beautiful work) inside the house for an intimate audience. Lexus Song Quest 2016 finalists, Madison Nonoa and Filipe Manu (pictured below) will sing Theodora and Septimius.
Later the same week, Rhona presents Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. This greatest of all Russian love stories is made for the garden, where the serfs come in from the fields and Onegin himself (Daniel O’Connor, below) strides in to steal the heart of Tatyana (Katherine McIndoe, below).
Handel’s Theodora will be performed on Saturday 11 February at 7.30pm, Sunday 12 February at 11.00 am and Thursday 16 February 2017 at 7.30pm.
Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin will be performed on 15, 17 and 19 February at 7.15pm.
Bring a picnic for a pre-opera supper in the garden and book now for one, or, better still, for both. It is a chance to see this celebrated house and garden in its unique role as venue for an immersive opera experience like no other.
Tickets are available online at Opera in a Days Bay Garden.
