CALLING ALL CHECKPOINTERS
The hunt is on for all those involved over the last 50 years in Checkpoint, New Zealand’s longest-running current affairs programme on radio or television.
The show turns 50 on Monday, and a team of former Checkpoint presenters and producers is on the hunt for all those involved in the programme over the last half century to gather at the Backbencher on 27 May.
RNZ is supporting the reunion, which will feature two of the original team from 1967, Elizabeth Alley and Alister Taylor, along with presenters, reporters, politicians and regular contributors who have featured on Checkpoint over the last half century.
Checkpoint kicked off at 9pm on April 3 1967. Although the times, slots and formats have altered over five decades the show has been going strong ever since.
The reunion organisers are keen to contact as many of those associated with the programme over the years as possible.
“We know that ever since it started Checkpoint has occupied a very special place in the New Zealand media scene, and it continues to grow in popularity and listenership,” said co-organiser George Andrews. “We want to make sure that all those involved in the programme get a chance to attend this fitting celebration.”
