The Marriage of Figaro
Unitec presents a Workshop Production of Pierre Beaumarchais’
The Marriage of
Figaro
Directed by Elena Stejko and
featuring Unitec's Year 3 Acting students
In 18th century Spain Count Almaviva has abolished Droit du Seigneur - the Lord of the manor's traditional right to sleep with a servant on her wedding night; however the attractiveness of Susan has caused him to resume this custom. Figaro, the intended husband plans to send the male adolescent page, Cherubino dressed in women's clothes to rendezvous with the Count. Whilst they are disguising the page, the Count arrives and Figaro's plans are foiled. Additionally, Marcelina reminds Figaro of his promise of marriage if he failed to pay a loan she made to him. Figaro and Susan's plans to marry seem to be destroyed, or are they?
