Comedy Carnival Brings Laughter Back to Christchurch
CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand - March 27th, 2017 - The 2017 GoMedia Comedy Carnival is bringing comedy back to Christchurch with the launch of its second annual festival. Held from the 8th of April until the 22nd, the Comedy Carnival will showcase much of the comedic talent the South Island has to offer. Kicking off on the 8th with the Comedy Buffet, and featuring 23 shows, including I Learnt Something Once, International Sex Icon, and The Political and the Correct, fresh from critically acclaimed runs in the Wellington and Dunedin Fringe Festivals, this is a world-class festival that is a must-see for anyone in Christchurch.
With 23 shows on offer, the Comedy Carnival features something for everyone, from traditional stand-up comedy in Tat from Tit, to the theatrical spectacular of All Grown Up, mime in This is Steve, concept shows like Roast Battle: Allstars and No Material Allowed, and in a South Island first, Nasty Women, an all-women lineup show.
We are also very pleased to announce the first annual Fresh Comedy Competition, which is a chance for people who have never done stand-up before, but always wanted to, to get up and give it a go. Fresh is our way of ensuring our vibrant Christchurch comedy scene continues to thrive, by giving the opportunity to the next generation of comedians to take to the stage. With $500 in cash prizes up for grabs, Fresh Comedy Competition is the perfect time to take the plunge!
“We are so excited at the range of talent and
styles of comedy on offer at this year’s Comedy Carnival.
We could not be more proud to provide a vehicle for
Christchurch audiences to experience the amazing local acts
we have right here in the South Island.”
- Hannah
McKenzie, Festival Co-Director
With tickets from $5-$10, the Comedy Carnival is accessible to all the people of Christchurch. Tickets are sold exclusively on SuchCrowd and limited door sales may be available. All ticketing information, and additional information about everything happening in the Carnival, can be found at www.comedycarnival.co.nz.

About
the Comedy Carnival
At it’s core the Comedy Carnival is
a vehicle to promote local acts and grow the scene in
Christchurch and the wider South Island, and so with that in
mind 2017 will be exclusively South Island acts. The scene
in the South Island has grown into a real hotbed of talent
and we are overwhelmingly proud to to be able to showcase
that talent to Christchurch! In the future, the Carnival
will continue to have a strong focus on the South Island,
but will be open to a limited number of international and
national acts.

sport. We are also a huge sponsor of the Arts. We are a
proud partner of the NZSO, Christchurch Buskers Festival,
