Ren Lunicke (of the international award-winning genderqueer coming-of-age play “Ze”: queer as f*ck!) is the genuine article, a gender non-binary trans individual making their way through a world that knows little to nothing about people like them. Far from the “safe space” university phenomenon or the diversity of the city, Ren seeks community in the only place they can, the minefield of the internet.
Identity Politics and trans issues might be taking headlines worldwide, but click-bait journalism barely touches the heavy barrage of internet memes, youtube cringe compilations, insult comedy, and trolls of all kinds engaged in a war to bait and mock micro-minorities out of existence.
Taking on the hyperbole, Ren forays into the land of the critic-provocateurs, a presumed “sensitive snowflake” in enemy territory. The result is a scathing, surprising, awkward, humbling, and very funny excavation of personal limits and how we all humour things that make each of us ridiculous.
“Bold, fun, and completely honest" – Theatre Review, New Zealand for “Ze”: queer as f*ck!
“Charming, hilarious, not at all shy” – My Entertainment World, Canada for “Ze”: queer as f*ck!
