New York house & disco innovator Maurice Fulton NZ debut
DJ, producer & visionary MAURICE FULTON heads to New Zealand for the first time in June at Auckland’s Whammy Bar. Over the past two decades, Maurice Fulton’s productions have been instrumental in the growth of dance music, whether solo or as a collaborator. He was part of the production crew behind Crystal Waters’ classic Gypsy Woman, and you can spy his name in the liner notes for such diverse artists as !!!, MU, and Mim Suleiman, and on labels like Running Back, DFA, Mr. Saturday Night, Warp, and his own Bubbletease. His own productions, as Boof or Dr. Scratch or under any of his myriad of aliases, veer from punk-funk through disco to NY house to whatever the fuck you call Syclops. Basically, the only common thread is that Fulton’s music is unforgettable.
Of course, it all began with Maurice Fulton DJing in clubs, and working in a record store. His sets are grounded by his time in the NYC club scene, where Fulton cut his teeth while the Loft and Paradise Garage were still kicking. But they also draw from his time exploring the globe, from the US to Melbourne to London to his current home of Sheffield, where he spends his time weaving wool and communing with nature. We have no idea where his set will go during his Auckland debut – but we know you won’t want to miss out.
