Carb on Carb & For Everest release split EP

For immediate release:

Carb on Carb & For Everest release split EP

For Everest is an emo pop five-piece whose members are split between Philly and New York City. They met Carb on Carb, a New Zealand feminist punk duo, in an unlikely place: in the living room of the long-standing Akron, Ohio DIY venue, Kling Thing.

They crossed paths a number of times over the next few months while both bands were touring the U.S.: struggling to uncork a bottle of white wine in between their sets at Crunch House in CT, sharing ravioli pizza in Brooklyn and test-tube shots at Fest in Florida.

Carb on Carb’s side is their first release since their own self-titled debut. The two songs are reflective; post-tour ruminations on things to do and things not done. ‘Practising for Retirement’ revolves around that ubiquitously felt pressure to be productive and ‘make use’ of your time, while constantly failing to be. ‘Ma’ is a song of both regret and ambition. Nicole lets us in on her relationships with her grandmas, and the harsh lesson she learnt encapsulated in the simple but relatable line “I wish I had the chance to talk to her as an adult, I really sucked as a pre-teen.” While these songs both rue lost opportunities, they are worked into anthems of personal growth.

For Everest's side of the split is also their first release since their debut album, We Are At Home In The Body. These new songs chronicle all the best ways to ruin a relationship - substance abuse, unchecked mental health, poor sexual decisions, ghosting, and overthinking. "Just so you know, I'll never grow any older with you," singer Sarah Cowell boldly states. "Unless I have to," her musical partner Nick Pitman responds. These songs exist in a place of both love and mistrust, ruining what is and what might have been. They leave you feeling incomplete, like any failed relationship would.

Both sides grasp at possibilities and acknowledge failures, perhaps symptoms of a tumultuous mid-20s experience shared in common. So while For Everest grew up an ocean away from Carb on Carb, they sing the same tune.

The split is released on 11th May, and is available on streaming services, as well as a cassette or download from Square of Opposition and a 7” (Carb on Carb songs only) from Black Wire Records.
